Carolina Moreno
Sergeant - Special Victims Unit
Somerset County

Carolina Moreno is currently the Sergeant of the Special Victims Unit at the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office, overseeing the unit detectives as well as the SANE/SART and Non-Fatal Strangulation and Smothering Response Teams. 

 

Sgt. Moreno has been in law enforcement for 18 years.  In 2010, she completed the Corner House Sexual Abuse Forensic Interview Training and was assigned to the Sex Crimes Unit. Sgt. Moreno is in her 14th year working in the Sex Crimes Unit and has conducted hundreds of child forensic interviews as well as been the lead detective in several high-profile investigations.   Sgt. Moreno has testified in numerous trials, motions, and hearings pertaining to her child forensic interviews in both Criminal and Family Court.

 

Prior to her tenure in the Sex Crimes Unit, Sgt. Moreno was assigned to the Intelligence Crime Task Force, General Investigations Unit, the Human Trafficking Liaison, the Child Abduction Response Team (CART) and a member of the Crisis Negotiations Team.  Sgt. Moreno received a master’s degree in international relations from the School of Diplomacy at Seton Hall University.  Sgt. Moreno is certified in Methods of Instruction (MOI) and has taught in the field of Sex Crimes at the Morris, Somerset, Union, Middlesex and Monmouth County Police Academies, as well as the Division of Criminal Justice Academy. 

In 2022, Sgt Moreno joined the faculty for Finding Words NJ. Additionally, she is now also facilitating Peer Review sessions for interviews conducted in Spanish.
